NEW RELEASES
When we are releasing for download, people can pick and choose much more than when they buy an album on vinyl or CD, so releasing many different and interesting tracks seems to be the ideal way to go. We like to give people the opportunity to discover something new and we have some brand new acts and new tracks to share with our fans.
Artistic Rebels are an indie supergroup featuring Russell and Maiko from Psykick Holiday, Joey Bedlam from Dollsquad and Steve Lucas the original frontman of the infamous Australian punk outfit X (and bands Bigger Than Jesus, Double Cross and The Groody Frenzy).
Joey and Steve had previously released a 7” vinyl version of the notorious banned # 1 hit song Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus. Inspired by this Russell and Maiko wanted to do an English version as this had never been done before, so that is what the band did (Maiko is French so this was a twist around for her). Two different 12” extended versions of the track have been released on iTunes, with Russell and Maiko doing the vocals. The English version may well be even raunchier than the French original!
For a follow up Russell had an idea to give out a new set of lyrics to a few different songwriters to see what they came up with and Steve came back with something truly excellent. All four members of Artistic Rebels sing on the new track Welcome to The Bureau of Affection and Russell was in the producers chair as usual. It has picked up a lot of airplay and proved to be a very popular release.

The Self Preservation Society (theme to the Italian Job) by Earthling Scum has always been a massively popular track on Themes from the ‘60s Vol. 3, especially after it became a huge football anthem belted out in stadiums (you can imagine how perfectly it went with the England v Italy match in the 2021 European Championship). Our version was recommended by the Football Association in the 2010 World Cup, but is still proving incredibly popular with fans today. It has now been released as a single.
Backstreet Boulevard was a poignant song about the homeless by Box Office Poison. It was adopted by a homeless charity and at one point Ed Sheeran was supposed to sing on a new version but he dropped out, so BOP has released it as a single in its original incarnation, with all proceeds going to the homeless.

Cult ‘60s act Glenda Collins is a popular artist that we have now signed permanently. She has previously appeared on several of the Cult Themes albums. Joe Meek produced many of her releases that were released through HMV, however some of her first singles were on the Decca label. We have acquired these and re-released them on the 6 track EP In The Beginning. A remix of one of those tracks, Find Another Fool, has been released as a single separately. The most sought after new track by Glenda Collins though is The Long Drop (to see why please visit the Glenda Collins page).
Many other singles on this page (Ministry of Ska, Mouse, Psykick Holiday) are taken from their albums but of special mention are Comment Dors Tu, a French version of How Can you Sleep by Psykick Holiday featuring Maiko (who is fast becoming the labels new pin up). Sea of Souls is the first new single from Psykick Holiday’s as yet unreleased new album. Strip Show by Mouse is about a worker in a strip joint wishing for another life. It has a soaring, wistful vibe and is definitely worth checking out.
Many rated Eleanor Rigby as a live act. There were 5 songs that she’s only ever sung live and these have been released on the 5 Live EP.
What with the pandemic, severe weather events, war and famine that we humans have gone through during 2019-2021 Eleanor Rigby's track Where Have All the Good Times Gone? seemed a very appropriate song to put out as a single. This is accompanied by a rare Censorship (acoustic version) track and the See My Friend 12" single, all on download.

The other act worth a mention is The Alien Orchestra UK, a band that FLR is looking to do more with in the future. Their music is something like composer Ennio Morricone would create but with alien sounds, so it was somewhat natural for the band to do a tribute to Morricone with two new and unusual versions of his expansive and haunting Chi Mai and Come Maddalena tracks. An instrumental version of the BOP track Alien was recorded by the band as well and has also been released as a single.
