Dedicated Follower was a top-selling influential fanzine produced in the '80s that concentrated on Mod/Brit-Pop/'60s influenced culture. It featured in an exhibition in the prestigious Victoria & Albert museum in London as a testament to it's status, and the V&A still own all the original '80s issues. Fanzines are known for being written by fans for fans and are usually home made affairs that depend heavily on the author's available time and resources.
Dedicated Follower stopped being written at the start of the '90s, and reappeared as an online magazine in the late '90s, before being discontinued once more.
However, to mark the 30th anniversary of the fanzine a special limited edition was printed in 2014, and this sold out in just a few days. This was followed by another special limited edition in 2015, filled with Mod culture, interviews and the latest releases and news. A third issue that proved popular was the Xmas 2019 issue for the 40th anniversary of Quadrophenia and '80s Mod revival. This lead to a flood of emails from all over the world calling for Dedicated Follower to come back as a regular item, proving that paper fanzines were far from dead. Mods, in particular, preferred something they can hold and own - as that is the Mod way of life.
Editor Russell C. Brennan is a Mod who brings a unique slant to the articles and manages to get into the hearts and minds of the fans as well as his interviewees. He brought the fanzine back from the dead and initially began creating a bi-monthly paper issue in 2020. He has kept to the original fanzine ethos of an amateur production made by fans for fans, not letting it get too professional. This was achieved by creating the 'zine at low cost from home and sending it out mail order. An upgraded look was obtained by adding American Mod graphic designer Trace Hull to the team. The interestingly written content, interviews, reviews & graphics all got a massive thumbs up from the readers and it has become a must-have item for anyone interested in Mod music, film and culture.
