MISTY WOODS

One rising star to look out for in the up coming years is Misty Woods, with good looks, star quality and songwriting ability and a great voice to match she is a girl destined to make a big dent in the world of music. Although no longer signed to Future Legend Records F.L.R's Head Honcho Russell Writer was the first one to spot this unique talent long before everyone else and signed her up. Fortunately for F.L.R she had been a fan of the labels and particularly found Eleanor Rigby an inspiration to her as a singer. A chance meeting in Camden London led to Misty not only her covering a track written for Eleanor (But never recorded)in the shape of Wallpaper Man but to write a song of her own 'Mod Boy'. Both these were released as part of a special Ep CD that also featured Two tracks By Eleanor Love on The Phone and Play with Fire. However what was more significant was Misty got to hear Russell's new band 'Box Office Poison'. Having been looking for something innovative and exciting to be involved in for quite a while she felt this music was perfect for her. There also seemed to be major Artistic chemistry at work when Russell & Misty worked together and although there have been a number of people through The B.O.P ranks the Russell/Misty combination defines what B.O.P and the Pop Noir genre of music is all about and was probaby the definative B.O.P line up. B.O.P Briefly changed their name to 'Pop Noir'and Alien on 'Cult Thmes from the 80's was the swan song before Misty has moved onto other things. Russel then called time on Box Office Poison and reinvented himself with a new line up to fly the flag for the 'Pop Noir' music genre and they are called 'Psykick Holiday'. (see elsewhere on the site about them.)
Anyway it is highly recomended that you check out The 'Heavy Breathing Decade' Album, Think For Yourself & Alien Ep Singles and The Cult Themes from The 70's & 80's (featured elsewhere on this site)as this was predominantly the Russell & Misty Combination of Box Office Poison.
Just prior to her debut C.D/E.P release.
So in 1997 she also recorded the track '5-15' (from the Film Quadrophenia) for The Cult Themes from the Seventies Vol.1 Album on FLR.
Famous boot company DR.Martens then entered the arena. They liked the track so much they insisted it be on their record labels debut release Generation to Generation also released in 1997.

1997 was certainly a busy year for Misty because as mentioned she also became lead singer of Box Office Poison

DR.Martens were not just impressed with Misty on '5-15' but were very keen on the whole Box Office Poison sound, songs, production and attitude and insisted that they to be part of the'Generation to Generation' album and that Russell should produce the album. Also as an additional carrot they said they would sign the band for up for a six figure sum and make them their first priority band to push on the newly created label.
Although DR.Martens are renowned for sponsoring concerts to help new artists and a move into putting out records seemed logical, a few of the company directors were not so sure it was the right move. A big difference of opinion within the hierarchy of the company resulted in the label eventually being folded after the 'Generation to Generation' album was released and 20,000 units were shifted. So Box Office Poison lost their deal but managed to leave their mark with what many consider to be the definitive version of 'Louie Louie'(least ways according to listeners of XFM.

Undaunted by this set back B.O.P put out two singles the same year and two tracks on The Cult Themes from the Seventies Vol.1
Misty quickly became the best exponent of the trade mark atmospheric backing Vocals pioneered on the First B.O.P album and these were heard to good effect on the themes The Persuaders and The Chase as well as on the singles Think For Yourself/Lady Grinning Soul for which she also did lead vocals and one half of the other single released that year Teenage Sex/Alien, her doing a new lead vocal of the latter which was originally featured on the 'Beyond the Twilight Zone' Album.

By the end of 1997 people were talking of Misty as being in the same league as Eleanor Rigby which was some complement and a buzz for her.
1998 was a less hectic year but nevertheless an important one for Misty and B.O.P as it saw the release of B.O.P's controversial second album Heavy Breathing Decade on which Misty sung lead on 9 of the 15 tracks.
However 1998 turned out to be a bit of an anti climax for the album after some management problems that stopped the band putting out singles to promote it.
However the following year B.O.P contributed to another new cult themes album The 70's Vol.2 In particulary their version of The Deep was considered one of the raunchiest and sexiest tracks every recorded.
Misty then went on to form her own band, the short lived Molotova. Their main claim to fame was playing the big music industry bash 'IN THE CITY'.
With her contract to F.L.R expiring, she got a new band together The Ju Ju Babies and performed some big gigs in Ibiza at manumission and released an Ep 'Electrotrash'
2001 saw her final contribution to her last FLR Release both as a solo Artists and B.O.P contributor. Doing This is not America,(solo) Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and Blade Runner (with B.O.P) for Cult Themes from the 80's. The album also features one of her finest vocals with the inclusion of the B.O.P original Alien late 2001 also saw Misty Perform live with Russell for the last time as Box Office Poison Hesdling a gig at The Subterrenia At Notting Hill London.

2005-6 saw Misty team up with ex Soft Cell member Dave Ball for the band GDM and also guest with Mod Band The Times at Live concerts. .

With her increasing popularity The Wallpaper Man/Mod Boy Ep single is becoming collectable and much sort after.
