Unless you stumbled on this site by accident you are here to learn how to take a short cut to the top of the music business whilst avoiding the many rip offs along the way. Also there can't be many other small 2 page sites around where you learn how to get £350 for nothing just by reading the content. So this is one site that it pays you to read.
Special Autumn 2007 price for one month only of only £4.99.
As many people in any walk of life with more than half a brain will tell you one of the most valuable commodities in life is Knowledge. The more you have the better you do in your chosen profession. If you haven't reached your goal in the music business then you must ask yourself one simple questions. Am I talented? If the answer is yes then the only reason you haven't got where you want to is knowledge of how the music business works. Sadly they don't teach this at school. So what you need is a way to acquire that information and Music Business Bastards can give you that key to succeed.

Many of you who live in the UK may have recently seen the program 'What
happened to the Bay City Rollers millions' For those of you who don't know the
aforementioned band sold 120 million records in the 70's and ended up earning
just a few thousand pounds instead of at least twenty million pounds each. 30
years on they are still getting ripped off and most of the band are destitute.
Sadly this is not the exception to the rule and thousands of household names now
find themselves working at a fast food restaurants wondering 'Where did it all
go wrong and where did all the money go?
A combination of naivety and
arrogance is usually to blame. Lets deal with the latter first I have met
thousands of bands who think their talent and their songs are the best thing
since sliced bread and they have this thought that because they rate themselves
so highly people will be tripping over themselves to sign them up and it will be
merely a few weeks before they are on Top of The Pops and number one in the
chart.
Apart from the fact that if you were lucky enough to get signed it
would be almost a year before you were put on the release schedule this whole
thought process is flawed and unrealistic. Firstly you are forgetting at any one
time in the music industry there are ten thousand other acts out there thinking
the same thing as you. Which brings us back to naivety. In order to achieve your
desired result you need to learn all the tricks of the trade to succeed at every
stage of you career from live work to recording to getting a record deal and
beyond. You need to beat the opposittion in every aspect to make sure its you and
not another person who gets that all important deal.
Suppose you couldn't
swim and somebody asked you to swim 100 yards with no lessons You wouldn't be
able to do it because you had never learnt or been taught how to.
You may
have learned how to play an instrument or sing but which school do you go to to
learn all about the music business.
That's where Music
Business Bastards comes in. You get to learn every step of the music
industry and what to avoid for less than the cost of a packet of guitar strings,
drum sticks or a few singing lessons. Why is it that an artist can see the logic
of paying out for those things only to struggle for years afterwards because
they felt they knew it all and didn't need any extra knowledge? So I would like
you to ask yourself the following questions.
1 Rather than playing all the usual pay to play places and
ending up either losing money or being ripped off through door tickets and PA
costs wouldn't you like to know how to get a few decent paying gigs.
2 Don't you seriously think your chances of getting a record deal would be
vastly improved if you arrived at a record company with a great name and image,
photos and maybe a video along with great songs whilst your rivals still didn't
have a clue about such things and just sent in their demo only.
3 If there was only one deal available on a take it or leave it basis would
you sign your life away not fully understanding what sort of costs were going to
come out of your potential earnings or would you prefer some knowledge about
what to expect.
4 You've seen many people get stitched up in the press wouldn't it be nice to
learn how to work the press and not suffer the same fate as many others.
5. You may only get one shot at a record company hearing your demo don't you
think that its worth knowing how to get a great demo rather than an average demo
and at a cost you can afford.
If the answer to all the above is yes then Music Business Bastards has all the answers you are looking for plus many many more.
Even if you want to go down the alternative route of making your own CD and
getting a cost effective Video done that will look as good as something that
cost ten times as much reading Music Business Bastards
will save you hundreds if not thousands of pounds in that area.
There
is much hype about the Internet. Forget the Bullshit you've heard, the author of
Music Business Bastards has been on the net for nearly
ten years and knows all the tricks of the trade and what works and what doesn't
and how to save a fortune into the bargain.

Many people who have read the book have said it was the easiest and best read on the subject ever and all were able to then make informed decisions that either made them money or saved them money and a hundred times more than the cost of the book.
The first band to use the information in the book were Soho and in particular their main man Tim London who was
involved in a band closely associated with the books author.
He used the
knowledge that featured in the book to form his own band, get a record deal and
a world wide hit. The hit was Hippy Chick.
Many other top name people have read the book and here are just a few of the many comments.

Russell Brennan (The Books Author) I originally wrote this book because I kept meeting so many green musicians who didn't have a clue and who were getting ripped off all the time. Later on I found a new need for the book, that of saving time. Many a popstar who went on to be famous has taken 10 years to get a deal or a hit. However I'm sure there are many of you out there who don't want to wait one year never mind ten to achieve your result. I once used to drive over an hour to work everyday then somebody told me about a short cut and after that it took me only ten minutes. my first thought was why couldn't I have learned this informatioin sooner. God knows how much money I have saved on petrol over the years but the added bonus was the amount of time I saved myself when you think about it if I drove only 300 days a year two ways I probably saved 600 hours which equates to 75 eight hour days. Thats alot of time to spend on other things rather than in a traffic jam. The point I'm trying to make here is a short cut can save you alot of time, money and stress and get you to your destination quicker and thats what Music Business Bastards does for you.
Bill Wyman (Ex Rolling Stones): 'Everyone thinks the Stones made a fortune back in the 60's. We didn't. If this book had been around then we would have. If a band or solo artist is aware that a book like this is available and fails to read it then they only have themselves to blame if they end up either getting ripped off or taking ten times longer to make it than they could have done.
Adam Ant (no.1 hit artist) : Although I already new the value of a good image and name and distinctive sound etc I could have done with more info about how the music industry works. There is a definite need for a book like this.
Sybil Roscoe (Former Radio One D.J) This is the best book I have read on the music business and unlike some others this one is easy to read and very informative.
Jon Irving (Capital Radio) Excellent advice. A must for any group who are serioius about getting somewhere in the music industry.
Dick Crippen (from hit acts Tenpole Tudor and King Kurt) This book is essential for any serious musician. Sadly bands think they know it all and often ignore advice or fail to do the smart thing like read this book and that's why 5 years down the line they are still struggling.
Kevin Dodd (Peristroika) My band had struggled for 5 years to make an impression on the music industry. When we followed Russell's advice in his book, within a few month we had a manager and six record labels after us. Sadly my band then split up at that crucial time and we missed our opportunity. I still learned a lot though and got an indie release out and co wrote two very good selling songs.
Steve Rowland (Top record producers of number one hits
like The Legend of Xanadu. A member of a number one hit act Family Dogg and
former head of Hansa Records Company who discovered acts like Japan and Sarah
Brightman etc).
Sometimes I just can't figure out how bands think or their
mentality. If somebody approached me and said if you give me £10 I'll give you a
few secrets that will help you get a record deal I'd have bitten there hand off.
Even getting a decent gig is worth parting with £10 for. When you add to this
the amount of money you could save from what you learn in this book including
not being ripped off for millions you'd be a mug or an idiot not to read Music Business Bastards if you got the chance.
Peter Hepple (Reviewed in Stage Magazine): This book
is essential for anyone looking to swim in the shark infested waters of the
music industry but it is also of interest to most people in the entertainment
industry in general. People should never underestimate the power of Image, Name
and Presentation as well as talent. Most people in the industry are ground down
by rejection of one sort or another but now there is a short cut to help you
keep your sanity. In Music Business Bastards not only do
you get lots of great tips on all areas of the industry but you also get warned
about the many rip offs.
Sadly when you are young in particular you fail to
heed any warnings or take any advice thinking you know it all. But these are the
same people who years later cry rip off and say 'If only I'd known about this
and that, why didn't somebody warn me'. However by then it's too late and a chip
on the shoulder beckons.
With books like this around the excuse of ignorance
is no longer valid. In the so called glamorous world of entertainment you have
to pay out for many things from singing or playing lessons to Photos to mail
outs and even websites these days. All cost much more than £5 but possibly this
CD-ROM/Book may end up being the best £5 you'll ever spend when you look back on
your career.

Russell is available for Consultancy his fee is normally £100 for a two-hour
session. At that session he goes over everything you have done so far and gives
professional comments. Then tells you what areas you need to improve on to help
you succeed and puts a battle plan together for you.
You can then either
depart with this knowledge or you can take up the option of looking at some
services like Photography, Producing, Styling etc
If you decide to take up
one of these services the £100 you paid for the consultation will be knocked off
the price of any service you decide to go for therefore making the consultation
free.
If you don't want a consultation and just want to check out what
services are available to help you click on the link to Department-S link near
the bottom of the page.
Although Russell is quite booked up he does like
working with new talent and so may be available to produce artists or do photo
sessions please ask if interested.

He has written over 50 songs comercially releases worldwide with sales of
six-figures plus. He has done A&R for a number of record companies and run
two indie record labels and a music publishing company discovering nearly 100
artists in the process. Although more of a cutting edge commodity he has at one
time or another been involved with Pye, Sony, Universal, Pinnacle, BMG, EMG, Big
Wave EMI, Greyhound, SRD, Caroline, Virgin, Windsong, Lightening, Future Legend
and DR. Martens to name but a few.
He has had many photos published as a
photographer and has designed a number of stand out record sleeves and posters
and is due to have an art and photo exhibition later this year. As part of his
Photographic skills he got into styling bands and models and transformed them.
(One sample can be found on the next page of this site and others can be viewed
at the Department-S website listed in links). He is therefore known to be an
expert at names and images.
As a writer he was editor and journalist of two
influential magazines in the 80's (Dedicated Follower & The Britannia) which
are now housed in the Victoria and Albert museum in London as a testament to
youth culture. He has kept his hand in at journalism and the original paperback
of Music Business Bastards was published by Martin
Breese Publishing. He also has an autobiography out later this year.
As a
musician he is the worlds leading punk Cellist and has also won Poetry awards
for his song lyrics .He has also directed pop videos and is due to direct his
first film next year. He has been involved in one shape or form in the internet
since 1994 with some of his own bands music being amongst the first to be
downloaded for sale via Cerberus Jukebox which was ten years ahead of its time
since downloads are now the latest thing. He has also designed and built
numerous websites and carried out many successful marketing tactics on the
web.
So I think you can see that Russell has indeed had a wealth of
experience within the music industry and unlike a journalist who may write a
book like Music Business Bastards based on interviews with various industry
professionals Russell has lived it first hand and it is that 24 years experience
that tells you that he knows what he is talking about. If you still have any
doubts then visit the next page of this site that features an except from Music Business Bastards which shows you how to make £350 for
nothing.
The only thing you need to know now is what chapters are contained in the book. To find out click on the cover of the book below. This will take you to the next page which as well as chapter listings you get a sample of advice contained in the book worth £350 to you and see how an artist was transformed from one image to another.
